When applying or interviewing for a job, keep it simple.
- Apply for as many opportunities as possible. Try to match your skills with various job openings and cast your net far/wide.
- Make sure you read and understand the job requirement and recruiter's instruction carefully. Do only as you as asked to.
- While you are waiting for a new job, learn new things! get free/paid training to enhance your skill set.
- Dress in clean/smart outfit and well groomed hair. Avoid unnecessary blings, flashy accessories and over-the-top color blocking i.e. purple/gold flying hair, too tight/too short outfits.
- Check over-confidence - You need to highlight your skills and competence but avoiding blowing your trumpet too loud. Its better to under-promise and over deliver.
- When you are at the interview venue, be courteous, greet everyone and be nice. Do not look down or talk down at anyone. Good manners is never out of fashion.
- Simplicity will create a better impression of you personality and your understanding of the situation. You do not have to show up in a G-wagon or empty a bottle of Oud to appear sophisticated. You really do not need sophistication to get a job.
- During the interview, Listen! Speak only when you are asked and keep in as precise as possible. always go straight to the point.
- Make sure to do some research before the interview. Find out as much as you can about your potential employer. Ask relevant questions too.
- Always thank the panel after the interview before you leave.
- You can politely ask for feedback regarding your interview.
