Cover Letter vs Application LetterYour cover letter or application letter is what greets the recruiter first and is they say, "first impression matters". Some people assume that recruiters do not read them, but that is a wrong impression. The cover letter or application letter is an important part of your application and opportunity for the applicant to make an impressive first contact.

Application letters highlight qualifications, skills, strengths, and previous jobs where this information should relate to the job applied to. Done properly, and it will showcase you as a good fit for the position. The purpose of a cover letter is pretty short and concise. A summary of you professional capacity and understanding of you role and value you intend to deliver.

In most cases, both are the same need to be accompanied by a résumé or a CV.

Curriculum Vitae (CV) vs Résumé résumé is usually used to apply to most non-academic jobs including consultants or expatriates, it tells mostly of your skill set, area of strength and achievements. If done well, your résumé will tell your story and sell you. while: CV is a longer version of your résumé and can be as much as two pages or more. It contains your personal information, educational qualification and work experience . You also do not need to write, “references on request.

Three major differences between CV and resume are the length, the purpose and the layout. A résumé is a brief summary of your skills and experience over one or two pages, a CV is more detailed.
