Mr. Oscar N. Onyema is CEO and member of the National Council of The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (1991) and MBA from Baruch College, New York (1998. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School having completed its Advanced Management Program (AMP) in 2015.
Prior to his return to Nigeria as CEO of NSE, he served for over 20 years in United States financial markets, managing market structure initiatives, products and securities exchange businesses and the Nigerian information technology sector as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at American Stock Exchange (Amex). He also ran the NYSE Amex equity business after the merger of NYSE Euronext and Amex in 2008.
Mr. Onyema has served as a Council member of Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS); Global Agenda Council member of World Economic Forum (WEF); board member of FMDQ OTC PLC and National Pension Commission of Nigeria (PENCOM) and is currently the President of African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA); Chairman of Central Securities Clearing System PLC (CSCS), the clearing, settlement and depository for the Nigerian capital market; and Chairman of the subsidiaries of The Exchange.
He holds Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Series 7, 24, and 63 licenses, and is active in Security Traders Association of New York, and Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. A Fellow of the Institute of Directors (IOD), member of London Stock Exchange (LSEG) Africa Advisory Group, he holds the Nigerian National honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and was listed on Forbes as one of the ten most powerful men in Africa in 2015.
